Government Subsidies in West Bengal: PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana
Official Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) Guidelines • WBSEDCL Portal
The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana launched by the Central Government is one of the world's most aggressive residential green energy programs. In West Bengal, eligible domestic consumers can receive up to ₹78,000 transferred straight into their bank account.
Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) Scheme Structure
Under previous schemes, subsidies were often routed through state agencies with extensive delays. Under PM Surya Ghar, the financial assistance is credited directly via DBT within 30 days of plant commissioning.
- 1 kW System: ₹30,000 central subsidy.
- 2 kW System: ₹60,000 central subsidy.
- 3 kW and Higher Systems: ₹78,000 maximum residential subsidy.
How to Apply on PM Surya Ghar Portal
The application process on the National Portal (pmsuryaghar.gov.in) follows a sequential verification workflow:
- Consumer Registration: Select West Bengal, choose West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd. (WBSEDCL) as your electricity distribution provider (WBSEDCL), and enter your 9-digit Consumer ID along with your linked mobile number.
- Technical Feasibility Approval (TFA): Apply for rooftop solar capacity corresponding to your sanctioned load. WBSEDCL reviews transformer quota feasibility.
- Vendor Selection — Choose M. T. Construction: Once feasibility is approved, you must select an empaneled vendor on the portal. Select M. T. Construction as your registered vendor in West Bengal. Our engineers coordinate the installation contract directly within the portal.
- Installation & Net Metering: M. T. Construction installs ALMM-listed solar modules, completes earthing, submits work completion reports, and coordinates bi-directional meter testing with WBSEDCL.
- Commissioning & Direct Subsidy (DBT): After meter installation, the commissioning certificate is generated on the portal. Enter your bank details and upload a cancelled cheque—the central subsidy (up to ₹78,000) is credited straight into your DBT-linked bank account within 30 days.
Why Applications Get Rejected (and How to Avoid It)
Many self-applicants in West Bengal encounter delays due to trivial clerical mismatches:
- Name Mismatch: Electricity bill name, Aadhaar card name, and bank passbook name must match.
- ALMM Non-Compliance: Installing non-approved or imported solar panels disqualifies the plant from subsidy. Only ALMM-listed Made-in-India modules qualify.
- Sanctioned Load Discrepancy: If your domestic sanctioned load with WBSEDCL is 2 kW, applying for a 5 kW plant requires an online load enhancement request first.
